One night of my time isn’t too much to ask, hopefully a few of your dollars isn’t either!
I work in the Melbourne CBD, and over the years I’ve sadly become accustomed to seeing the homeless and rough sleepers on a daily basis. It’s heartbreaking to see, and I often wonder if I could do more than spare a little change… Maybe it’s just my perception, but it looks like homelessness has been getting worse in recent years.
This is ironic, as it comes at a time when Melbournians are generally enjoying bigger, better, and newer homes, and for many of us, when we get sick of our homes, we head down to our holiday homes.
I have been nominated by my team to take part in the 2019 Vinnies CEO Sleepout and raise money and awareness for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Aussies in need. Vinnies, and many other worthy organisations, are doing a great job trying to eradicate homelessness across Australia, and I think it’s incumbent on all of us to try to help!
I’ll be sleeping outdoors in the depths of the Melbourne winter as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness to a home-grown wog boy like me!
Working with my dedicated team at Touch Projects, we’ve set an ambitious $10k target, and Touch Projects will be matching me dollar-for-dollar.
Will you help me reach my target? The cost of a coffee once-a-week over a year is about two hundred dollars. If you can spare even a quarter of that – $50 – I’d be greatly appreciative…
If you haven’t aligned yourself with a charity this year, then I politely ask you to consider supporting this one (and me!).
I am conscious of the competing pressures of equally worthy charities, and if you’re already stretched, I understand – kudos (that’s Greek for praise!) – just don’t expect a Christmas card from me this year…
