ACES Residential Aged Care Facility
The Aboriginal Centre for Elderly Seniors (ACES) is a not-for-profit organisation with two residential aged care facilities co-located onsite at 5-6 Parkview Avenue, Brunswick East: a 13-bed nursing home and an 18-bed hostel, along with catering/kitchen services and community outreach services. This redevelopment aimed to improve health services for the local indigenous community through the creation of a fit-for-purpose, culturally aligned facility.
Touch Projects managed and superintended the project. Stage 1 comprised a $6.1 million redevelopment of the administration building, supporting First Nation elders via a culturally designed space. The new building includes counselling and health consultation rooms, workspaces for 26 staff, a new dining area for residents, upgraded commercial kitchen, amenities, and external landscaping works.
Stage 2 comprised the respectful refurbishment of the residential hostel, namely five ensuite rooms, including one DDA room. This stage was valued at $2.1 million.
Stage 3/4 encompassed the refurbishment of the internal family gathering room, and construction of new external spaces including courtyard, decks, ramps and landscaping. The budget for this stage was $1.89 million.
Touch Projects undertook end-to-end management of all project stages, including initiation, planning and design, procurement, construction and final handover.
Key challenges throughout the project included a live site, latent condition risks and budget management to meet the brief and optimise value. Touch Projects excelled at managing these areas whilst meeting VHBA compliance and reporting monthly on financials, program and risks.
