Staughton College

The project entailed a $33 million upgrade and extension of Staughton College - a transformative initiative designed to accommodate an additional 400 students. Works included the design and delivery of two new buildings: administration and canteen, and a state-of-the-art STEAM building, plus five new relocatable classrooms, and extensive landscaping and external works.

The project required end-to-end project management, with expert navigation through the critical phases of design, tender, and contract award. Strong strategic planning skills were also necessary in order to ensure full compliance with VSBA, CPAS and probity requirements, whilst maintaining rigorous oversight of financial budgets, project timelines and risk management. Through proactive stakeholder engagement and detailed monthly reporting to the VSBA and Victorian Department of Education, continual transparency and alignment with project goals were maintained. 

Further, a strong understanding of VSBA processes and digital platforms – including Tender, Supplier, ICN, and Aconex (Cost Module) – were instrumental in the effective optimisation of operations, workflows and project efficiency. 

One of the most significant challenges of this high-profile project was managing the live operational site whilst adhering to strict budget constraints. This prompted clever value engineering, and an innovative approach to problem-solving, in order to maximise the project’s potential without compromising quality. 

Another challenging aspect was the complex contract negotiations required, with the contract awarded from among 30 tender options, ultimately ensuring flexibility, cost effectiveness and optimal outcomes for Staughton College’s growing community.

Under skillful management, aided by effective financial oversight and expertise in delivering complex projects, this large-scale education facility was upgraded and modernised with precision and excellence.
